Dear friends,

 
What a year 2020 was! March marks the one year anniversary of the lockdown restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As the year went along, I experienced a lot of loneliness and isolation, just like many of you. Not being able to see family and friends was a terrible burden. Also, not being able to praise and worship God in the Sanctuary with other believers caused me considerable pain. My way of worshiping God had to change and I had to find new ways to express myself. I was almost in mourning for my ministry and was feeling like I wasn’t being an effective and active participant in God’s call on my life - to reach others through music for Jesus Christ.
 
My way to deal with this was to turn to the piano. As the pandemic got worse, my prayers and lamentations went out to God. Every day I played a very specific set of songs which were quite out of my regular repertoire. Songs from Rachmaninoff, Bach, Chopin, Debussy and others spoke to the sorrow I was feeling.
 
With the help of my brother-in-law, Kevin Baker, I decided to make a recording of these pieces to help others voice their sorrows and lamentations through music. After I recorded, I took a short break and turned to Christmas music, then a miracle happened. I returned one day to my set of lamentation songs at the piano. It was like visiting old friends, familiar and comfortable. Then, suddenly, I realized that my sorrow had been lifted. God literally took away the pain of separation and the distress that I was feeling. I sat in amazement of how God could work through music to heal and to comfort.
 
My prayer is that this CD, Preludes At The Piano, will help you to express your sorrow, pain and loss as we face these uncertain times. Allow God to lift them from you, even as you acknowledge that they are real and valid feelings. We have all lost loved ones from this awful disease, including my Uncle Bill Gerard, my dad’s younger brother. It doesn’t seem fair, does it? It is alright to cry out to God and express your grief.
 

"Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

The first song on the CD, Prelude in G# Minor by Rachmaninoff, very specifically, for me, expresses the anguish, turmoil, the feeling of breathlessness and sense of losing control that I had felt for some time. Then suddenly, the sadness abruptly departs toward the end of the piece, like a release from all of the tension.
 
God takes our cares and heals us if we decide to trust in Him.
 
I hope you also enjoy my daughter, Julianna’s rendition of Rachmaninoff’s Prelude in C# Minor.

About these ZIP Files

These compressed ZIP files contain all the MP3 and WAV files found above in one easy to download container.  This facilitates downloading the entire album to your device and saves you from having to individually download each one.

Note: The ZIP files likely need to be extracted from the compressed ZIP folders before your device will be able to play them.  Windows does this natively, as do other some other operating systems, but for those that do not, freely available utilities can be installed to do this.
